Academy of Architecture for Justice
|
 |
The Academy of Architecture for Justice (AAJ) is the AIA
knowledge community that promotes excellence in the design of
justice facilities. AAJ members have expertise in the planning,
design, and construction of justice facilities, including judicial
complexes, courthouses, police stations, prisons, jails, special
needs facilities, and juvenile detention centers.
In particular, AAJ members encourage development of designs that
result in facilities that
Operate efficiently, safely, and securely;
Contribute to more livable, more sustainable
communities;
Elevate the stature of these institutions within
society;
Create a positive environment for those who visit, work, and
live in these facilities; and
Achieve responsible stewardship of public funds.
The AAJ promotes and fosters the exchange of information and
knowledge between members, professional organizations, and the
public regarding high-quality planning, design, and delivery of
justice architecture. Architect members work in private and public
organizations of all sizes, and many are expert in subjects ranging
from courtroom technology and advanced security systems to specific
design requirements for juvenile detention centers. Allied AAJ
members are from all sectors of the justice community who work in
partnership with architects. They include educators, public
servants, administrators, product manufacturers, and
consultants.
The goal of the AAJ is to focus on effective project delivery, team
building, collaboration, project management, fiscal management,
communications skills, management skills, and cutting-edge design
issues for architects who provide the diversified services
associated with justice architecture. Together, architect and
allied AAJ members are committed to improving the quality and
effectiveness of the U.S. justice system by increasing the level of
excellence in justice facility design. The AAJ welcomes sponsors
who share these same interests and beliefs in the importance of
achieving quality design in this sector of the construction
industry.
AAJ activities and publications provide a variety of sponsorship
opportunities to suit a diverse range of marketing strategies.
