The 2008 Walter Wagner Forum: The Role of Architecture Schools in Service to Society
Architecture schools engage in service to society in a variety of ways. They provide opportunities for students to become involved on their campuses and in their communities; they initiate projects and programs that address social, environmental, economic, and humanitarian needs. Following a peer review process, three papers that address this topic were selected for the Walter Wagner Forum at the AIA National Convention in 2008. To demonstrate its commitment to sustainable design and the architects’ leadership role, the AIA Board of Directors modified the AIA member Continuing Education requirement to include four (4) hours of sustainable design continuing professional education as part of the existing 18 hour annual requirement. This sustainable design continuing education requirement goes into effect in calendar year 2009 through 2012.
50 to 50 is intended to be an informative and easily accessible reference to provide a basic understanding of the 50 initial strategies and tools available to help our membership get to 50 percent carbon reduction - the first step in the 2030 Challenge. The assumption is that the list of 50 will continue to grow and to be refined as we discover new and better ways of reducing carbon and as the emissions reduction targets progress to greater percentage reductions over time.
The Association of Collegiate Schools of Architecture designs a printed publication to recognize educators who have received awards from ACSA, AIA, and AIAS. To order a free copy, please contact Catherine Roussel at croussel@aia.org.
